The Cedar Chest above holds my treasures. Fifteen quilts are pictured in the chest. My all time favorite is the sea turtle quilt hanging over the left corner of the lid. I had made it for my son Michael when he was six. The pattern is a variation of Grandmother’s Fan. The combination of four fans joined, with the head and tail appliquéd, created a sea turtle. There are six turtles on the quilt.
The Log Cabin hanging next to it is one of the quilts I made with Diane as she was teaching me how to quilt. We used Christmas fabric and gave them as gifts. Looking at this quilt I remembered how difficult hand quilting was when you first learn. My hand quilting has improved by leaps and bounds.
I have five of my ControlledChaos quilts in the chest as well. The one hanging on the lid is done with butterfly fabric. The one hanging over the front left corner is a miniature. It has the same number of pieces in it as the others, only smaller. It is hung on the wall in my shop. The very colorful quilt behind the miniature is done with fabric Michael picked out. The other two are hanging over the right front corner. These are summer quilts, made without batting.
The Dresden Plate, shown on the right in the chest, is an Amish quilt from Lancaster County. The miniature Dresden Plate hanging on the front of the chest has fifteen pieces of fabric in each one of those tiny little circles. What a job that was!
The quilt hanging over the right corner is another quilt I had made for Michael. It is all frogs. While making the frog quilt I had punctured a hole in it with a pair of scissors. I fixed it by embroidering a fly over it. It made the quilt even more special.
The miniature quilt hanging over the lid is one of five I use for placemats on the picnic table in my kitchen. It is made out of my “ugly fabric” collection. My friend and I went on a quest for the ugliest fabrics we could find to make miniature quilts and they turned out perfect.
The remaining three quilts pictured are Michaels. There is a baseball quilt, a soccer quilt, and one done in animal prints. As you can see we have quite a few quilts in our house. Quilts help make a house a home!
Pictured below are some of the quilts I have done in the past. They are treasures not forgotten.
